Ammon Oley Buckner

March 13, 1930 — December 31, 2022

McMinnville resident and Putnam County, TN native Ammon Oley Buckner, age 92, was born March 13, 1930 and died December 31, 2022 at Manchester Health and Rehabilitation in Manchester, TN following a sudden illness.

A retired employee of National Tea Co., private pilot and flight instructor who loved to fly and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he was the son of the late Aubrey Austin and Effie Lea Williams Buckner.  He was married to Mildred Teeple Buckner who preceded him in death.  In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lea E. Buckner; twin brother, Albert Poley Buckner; brother, Joe H. Buckner; sister, Louise Ashburn and special nieces, Molly Elizabeth Loftis and Samantha Jane Loftis.

Mr. Buckner is survived by a sister, Polly Ann (David) Smith of McMinnville; brother, Philip W. (Shirley) Buckner of McMinnville; special niece, Jane Ann Wooden (Randy) Loftis of McMinnville; special great-nieces and great-nephew, Lila Loftis (Kaleb) Smith, Bec Loftis (Spencer) Fults and Zeb Loftis; nieces and nephews, Mike Buckner of Manchester, TN, Paul Buckner of Tullahoma, TN, Beth Buckner Sandlin of DeFuniak Springs, FL, Susan Buckner Gillespie of Cookeville, TN, David Buckner, Allen Buckner of Augusta, GA, Jeff Buckner of Martinez, GA and Laura Ann Buckner Mullen of Evans, GA; a host of great and great-great-nieces and nephews and three special caregivers, Alma McCormick, Jean Myers and Nancy Freedle.

A graveside service and interment will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 2, 2023 at Bethlehem Cemetery with Travis Wilson officiating.  Full military honors will be administered by the VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173.  There will be no visitation at the funeral home.  Family and friends will meet at Bethlehem Cemetery for the graveside service.
