Benton Thomas Womack, age 91, a Warren County, TN resident and native was born April 24, 1928 and passed away July 9, 2019 in Webb House Retirement Center following an extended illness. Mr. Womack was a veteran of the United States Navy, member of First Baptist Church and son of the late Grady M. and Icie Mae Haley Womack. He owned and operated several Pure oil service stations in McMinnville. He was best known at Westwood Pure service station where the phrase "Fill it up/Check the oil" was commonplace. He ventured into real estate after 35 years in the service station business. He also enjoyed raising beef cattle, cutting hay and building fences. He worked hard his entire life. He raised some quality bird dogs as he enjoyed quail hunting and fishing when time permitted. Benton served two terms as city alderman in McMinnville. He also served on the board of McMinnville Electric System. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Mary Helen Jones, Martha Bilyeu and Carl Womack. He was married January 7, 1951 to Betty Sain Womack who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Donna Womack of Morrison; two grandchildren, Chad Womack of Nashville and Sara and Russell Prater of McMinnville; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2019 in High’s Chapel with Bo Hendrix to officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. View Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday and 11:00 a.m. Friday until the time of service at High’s. Donations may be made to Alzheimer’s of Tennessee.
