Betty Sue Brown

February 19, 1939 — August 11, 2020

Betty Sue Simons Brown, age 81, a McMinnville, TN resident and Warren County, TN native, was born February 19, 1939 and passed from this life to her eternal life, August 11th, 2020. Betty and her family owned a tree and shrub nursery for many years in Walterhill of Murfreesboro, TN. She retired from Whirlpool where she was a tow motor driver and worked in Reeves-Rogers school cafeteria (no doubt to keep a watchful eye). She was a member of the Baptist faith and the daughter of the late George Washington and Willie Mai Rowland Simons. Betty was married 56 years to John Morgan Brown who preceded her in death in 2010. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by sister, Thelma Simons Duncan; brother George (Buddy) Bethel Simons; and many other family members. She is survived by one brother, Paul Williams Simons of Indianapolis, IN; two daughters, Vickie Brown and Michelle Harris, both of Murfreesboro, TN; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends also survive. Betty was a cut up, laughed and joked with you all the time, and she earned the nickname BS by many. She loved going to the lake, camping with family and friends, playing cards, and the board game Aggravation every weekend. She loved and missed our family reunions and our serious horseshoe tournaments. She loved the soap opera General Hospital and romance novels. Mom had a passion for classic cars, as she had many of them. But music was her favorite hobby. She had a huge music collection. She was always going to concerts and live music events. She once flew to Las Vegas to see her man, Elvis Presley perform. Betty was a woman of strong faith and was looking forward to being with her Savior and family. She will always be missed and remembered by all who had the pleasure of her love and friendship. Because of Covid-19 and the dangers it could pose to her family and friends, she requested no services be held. There will be a celebration of life with music and fun at a later date. Even in the end, she was protecting the people she loved. Betty will be laid to rest at her husband’s side at Morrison Cemetery in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Avalon Hospice, 904 N. Chancery St., Suite 4, McMinnville, TN 37110. Online condolences may be made at www.highfuneralhome.com High Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
