Billie Ruth (Horton) Mason was born November 4, 1933, in McMinnville, Tennessee. She was the oldest of three children. She married William Thomas (Bill) Mason on September 6, 1953. The Masons had three of their children while living in Tennessee, then had their last after moving to Dunwoody, Georgia.
Billie is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, her son, Mark, and his wife, Margaret. She leaves behind sister, Bernice Farley, brother Bob Horton. She is also survived by daughters Melissa (Dennis) Morrison, Melanie (Trey) Callihan, and Martye (Mike) Smith, 6 grandsons and their wives, and 12 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews on the Mason and Horton side.
Billie was a devoted Christian wife and mother. She was feisty but compassionate, tough but tender, and to know her was to love her.
In addition to raising her four children and fostering children while hers were still young, she worked in various jobs, her last being that of media clerk for Dekalb County School System for over 25 years. She proudly earned the name Bulldog Billie while there, always able to find things when no one else could. She was also a Sunday school teacher, wedding director, avid gardener, and a gifted singer.
Billie had been suffering with medical issues for several years. She succumbed to her illnesses on August 23rd, passing peacefully in the loving hands of her hospice caregivers.
