Carl William “Bill” Rabon, Jr., age 85, a McMinnville, TN resident and Uriah, AL native was born October 23, 1933 and passed away August 3, 2019 in St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital following a six-week illness. He was the son of the late Carl William Rabon, Sr. and Juliette Brantley Rabon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Lois Gavin Rabon; son, Sonny Casey; sisters, Judy Ann Woolley and Marilyn Hanson. Bill served in the United States Navy during the Korean War as an electrician and later as a hurricane hunter. He would fly into the eye of hurricanes to measure their strength. Bill had a nursery in Florida that took advantage of his green thumb. He loved landscaping and designed beautiful spaces for family and friends. When he moved to Tennessee, he designed and built the beautiful house he lived in with his wife of 56 years. Bill was an avid fisherman and loved nothing better than loading up his boat and camper to go fishing. There would always be plenty for a good fish fry. Bill never met a stranger. He was always joking around and making people laugh. He loved to entertain and made delicious cakes and desserts. His family has many wonderful memories. He taught his grandchildren many things but most of all how to enjoy life, how to stop and smell the roses. He seemed so much larger than life. He was one of a kind. Survivors include three children and spouses, Mary Maloy of Ocala, FL, Linda and Thomas Turvin of Ashford, AL and Dennis and Lois Ann Casey of Viola, TN; daughter-in-law, Betty Casey of Florida; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Ted French of Alabama, Carolyn and Dick Neuschwander of Alabama; brothers-in-law, Paul Woolley of Alabama and Mr. Hanson of Alaska; several nieces and nephews; close family friend, Jan Botten of McMinnville; and his beloved chihuahua of ten years, Pepe. Graveside service and interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 9, 2019 in Viola Cemetery with Linda Turvin to officiate. There will be no service or visitation at High’s.
