Charles Leroy Sparkman

July 22, 1934 — February 28, 2024

Smartt Station, TN resident and White County, TN native Charles Leroy Sparkman, age 89, was born July 22, 1934 and died February 28, 2024 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN following a sudden illness. He was a graduate of White County High School Class of 1954 and attended Tennessee Tech University. Charles was a member of the Exchange Club and a longtime scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America. A retired employee from A.O. Smith, a United States Army veteran and member of McMinnville First Free Will Baptist Church, he was the son of the late Charlie and Gladys Lee Roscoe Sparkman. He was married to Susie Sparkman on September 16, 1961 who preceded him in death on January 14, 2024. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by grandson, Ian Campbell-O'Neill; sister, Mildred Harding; sisters-in-law, Juanita "Dink" McBride and Margaret Sparkman; brothers-in-law, Oscar "Bud" Powers, Albert C. "Jr." (Winona) Powers and Gordon Mason and niece, Annette McBride. Survivors include two sons, Barry Sparkman and Michael Campbell both of Arizona; grandson, Cody Campbell O'Neill of Arizona; great-granddaughter, Maeve Campbell-O'Neill of Arizona; sister, Dot Hudson of White County; brothers, Donald (Mary Ann) Sparkman of Cookeville, TN and Gene Sparkman of McMinnville, TN; sister-in-law, Bobbie Jo Mason of McMinnville, TN; brothers-in-law, Jim (Carolyn) Powers and Daries "Peanut" (Connie) Powers both of the Rocky River Community and numerous nieces, nephews & friends. Graveside service and interment will be held Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Brett Cook, Sr. and Bill Eversole officiating. No visitation will be held at High’s. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to McMinnville First Free Will Baptist Church Benevolent Fund (95 Love Road, McMinnville, TN 37110) or Warren County Meals on Wheels.
