McMinnville, TN resident and Grundy County, TN native Clemma Grace “Sugar Lou” Smith, age 96, was born February 9, 1927 and died August 9, 2023 at NHC Healthcare in McMinnville following an extended illness.
A retired employee of Genesco for 39 years and a member of Mt. View Church of Christ, she was the daughter of the late Henry D. and Clara Northcutt Myers. She was married to A.J. “Hootie” Smith on December 14, 1947 who preceded her in death on April 25, 2017. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Cheatum L. (Lena) Myers, Comer (Betty) Myers, Chester (Willie Mae) Myers, Cebert Myers, Celvia Myers, Clifton Myers and Crimble Myers; foster parents, AE Curtiss and Vickie Bales Curtiss; foster brothers, Waymon (Bonita) Curtiss, Lowell (Mary Lou) Curtiss and Edie Curtiss Milstead and half-sisters and half-brothers, Georgia (Woodrow) Pack, William Myers, Otelia Kiteley and Millard Myers.
Mrs. Smith is survived by son, Rudy J. (Linda) Smith of Rock Island, TN; daughter, Renaa (Lynn) King of McMinnville, TN; four grandchildren, Rudy A. Smith of Hermitage, TN, Kyle King of McMinnville, TN, Shawnda (Lynn) Curtis of the Curtistown Community and Kerry King of McMinnville, TN; three great-grandchildren, Cheslee Curtis, Eli King and Ashtyn Curtis; half-sister, Julia Mae Elledge of Morrison, TN and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 12, 2023 in High’s Chapel with Joe Solomon and Scotty Lawson officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Cemetery on Highway 30 in Warren County, TN. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at High’s.
