Warren County native & resident, Mr. Donald “Wayne” Tanner, age 80, was born Saturday, November 4, 1939 and passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at his home after a two-year battle with cancer, surrounded by family. Wayne is survived by two sons & daughters-in-law, Joey & Jamie Tanner and Donald and Darian Tanner; three daughters & son-in-law, Krystal Tanner and Roger Martin, Cindy and Flint Higgins, and Teana Tanner; grandchildren, Charles and Renae Tanner, Noell and Matt Brown, Robert James Tanner, Andrew and Dakota Tanner, Braxton Tanner, Flint and Kayla Higgins, Lucas and Katarina Higgins, Russell and Keri Rutledge, Joshua Rutledge, Cody Rutledge, Donald “Aiden” Tanner, Brett Martin, Cameron Martin and Alea Martin; great-grandchildren, Conner Tanner, Isabella Tanner, Sequoia Tanner, Hunter Basham, Lakelyn Basham, Mattalyn Brown, Wesley Higgins, Colten Higgins, Dean Higgins, Trevor Rutledge, and upcoming addition Waylon Tanner; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Leonard and Joyce Tanner, Laymon and Wanda Tanner and Tommy Tanner; sister, Nancy Tanner; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie Elmer and Opal Jewel Holland Tanner; brother, Archie Elmer Tanner, Jr.; sisters, Joann Tanner Jordan and Dorothy Florine Tanner; grandsons. Gaige Thomas Tanner, Riley Preston Martin and Presley Keyton Martin; and nephews, John Thomas Tanner and Timothy Lee Jordan. Mr. Tanner retired from the City of McMinnville Water Department. Wayne was also a volunteer fireman and a master shade tree mechanic. He also worked for Mitchell’s Automotive, Bouldin & Lawson and Powell’s Plastering during his life. He attended services at the Church of Jesus Christ in Leesburg. Wayne loved to fish with his cousins, Clyde Tanner and Donald Ray Tanner. His greatest enjoyment was sitting and playing guitar for and with his family. He also enjoyed restoring antique automobiles, watching his son mud race, going to cruise-ins and car shows with his daughter and the Common Bonds Car Club, playing music at the fair with George Boren and riding around looking for old cars. He passed on his love of cars to all his children and taught them how to work on them. He always made everyone feel welcome just like they were family. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday June 6, 2020 in High’s Chapel with Dana McCormick Mullins officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at High’s.
