Dorothy Jean (Nelms) Woodlee, 88, of McMinnville, passed peacefully on January 11, 2020 in the care of Avalon Hospice at Raintree Manor in McMinnville, TN. Mrs. Woodlee was born August 4, 1931 in McMinnville, Warren County, TN. Her parents were John Wesley and Hallie (Wanamaker) Nelms. She was a retired homemaker and staff member at The Learning House and an accomplished musician on the piano serving Shiloh United Methodist Church for many years. “Miss Dot” as she was known by many, touched the lives of young and old alike with her amazing musical gifts. Mrs. Woodlee is preceded in death by her husband since 1949, Alvin Lierd Woodlee with whom she was devoted for her entire life and one son, John Anthony (Tony) Woodlee. She was also predeceased by her parents, five brothers and one sister. She is survived by one sister, Lillian Daniel of McMinnville. She is also survived by a daughter, Nancy Gaye Woodlee of Beersheba Springs, TN, her daughter Dr. Bethany Womack (Joe Upton) of Soddy-Daisy, TN, granddaughters Olivia and Katie Woodlee of Cornelius, N.C. , son Timothy Cain Woodlee, his wife Joan and their daughters, Dr. Rachel Riley (Captain Joseph W. Riley) of Washington D.C. and Laura Woodlee of Greer, SC; and son Todd Nelms Woodlee and his wife, Dr. Anna Filippo of Rome, GA and many lifelong friends. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2020 in High's Chapel. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday and 9:30 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at High's.
