McMinnville, TN resident and Warren County, TN native Elsie Faye Safley, age 92, was born July 8, 1928 and died February 4, 2021 at NHC Healthcare in Sparta, TN following an extended illness. A member of Central Church of Christ, retired salesclerk from Jennings Jewelers, and retired assistant librarian from Hickory Creek Elementary School, she was the daughter of the late John Clark and Annie Jane Farless Hillis. Mrs. Safley was a member of VFW Post 5064 Ladies Auxiliary where she served as president for several years. On June 1, 1947 she was married to Clarence Eugene “Red” Safley who preceded her in death. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by son, Remus Clark Safley; daughter, Janice Faye Safley; grandson, Terry Edward Bouldin; sister, Mary Jane Woodlee; and four brothers that died at infancy. Mrs. Safley is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Leroy Wilmoth of Rock Island, TN; granddaughter and spouse, Renee and John Morgan of McMinnville, TN; five great-grandchildren, J.T. Morgan, Jr. of McMinnville, TN, Adam Simmons of Cookeville, TN, Jeffery Simmons of McMinnville, TN, Brett Simmons of McMinnville, TN, and Laura Herman and husband, John, of McMinnville, TN; two great-great-grandsons, Braden and Raylan Herman; and four sisters, Betty Hillis Williams of Nashville, TN, Evelyn Rowland of Rock Island, TN, and Bonnie Hitchcock of McMinnville, TN. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2021 in High’s Chapel with Charles Bogle officiating. Burial will follow at Crain Hill Cemetery in Van Buren County, TN. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at High’s.
