Beloved Mother and Grandmother, Emogene Simmons Hodges, age 93, was born November 26, 1927 in Van Buren County, TN and died February 22, 2021 at St. Thomas Highlands Hospital in Sparta, TN following a brief illness. A retired dental assistant with the State of Tennessee, factory worker, former teacher at Laurel Creek Elementary in Van Buren County, TN, and member of Laurel Creek Baptist Church, she was the daughter of the late James William and Eliza Hillis Simmons. She was a member of the graduating class of 1946. She was married to Charles W. Hodges who preceded her in death. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by eight siblings. Mrs. Hodges is survived by daughter, Betty Murray of Franklin, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Melodie Hodges of Spencer, TN; four grandchildren, Melissa Murray of Jacksonville, FL, Brian Murray and wife, Wendi of Jacksonville, FL, Brandon Shane Hodges and wife, Michelle of Sparta, TN, and Tabatha Jade Moser of Calabasas, CA; two step-grandchildren, Colby Wheeler and wife, Krystyna and Wesley Wheeler and wife, Holly; seven great-grandchildren, Kaylee Murray, Alyssa Adcock, River Moser, Lake Moser, Victoria Lucas, Tyson Hodges, and Scarlett Hodges; three step-grandchildren, Grayton, Huntington, and Asher Wheeler; one great-great-grandchild, Baylor LeDuc; several nieces and nephews; and and her church family also survive. And a special thank you to all the wonderful caregivers mom has had over the years. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Laurel Creek Baptist Church in Van Buren County, TN with Roy Terry officiating. Burial will follow in Laurel Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at High’s and on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at Laurel Creek Baptist Church.
