Waldorf, MD resident and previously a resident of McMinnville, TN
Evelyn Virginia Goff, age79, was born on March 2, 1944 in North Tazewell, Tazewell County, VA and died on September 24, 2023 at The Charleston of Waldorf 45 St. Patricks Drive, Waldorf, Charles County, Maryland 20603.
Evelyn was of the Baptist faith and although she did not regularly attend church she trusted in God to sustain and give her strength to endure each day.
Evelyn was first and foremost a mother to her children which she had for such a short time. Her occupation was server in various food establishments and she was an excellent home maker and cook. Being very giving of herself she would always offer to help anyone, even the nurses in the hospital and the residents at The Charleston of Waldorf where she resided in her final years. She always had a big smile for everyone and would easily give you a big hug and say “I Love You”.
Evelyn completed 12th grade in school and in later years attended college computer classes so that she could do endless research on the Booth Family tree and families of her in-laws’ families. She spent numerous hours on the history that accompanied that research. She was very talented in craft work, knitting and crocheting and loved to work jigsaw puzzles. She shared so many of her “perfect” handmade crafts and knitted/crochet pieces with various family members and friends.
Evelyn was the 12th child of Claiborne Neal Booth and Omey Bertha Mae Caudill. Both parents preceded her in death. Her husband, Ralph Eugene Goff preceded her in death in 2014. Her five children, Eric Glenn Booth died at 4 months Aug-Dec 1963, Sherri Lee Bowen, 12 years old, Julie Mae Bowen, 8 years old and Mark Everett Bowen, 4 years old all died in a house fire on July 2,1977 and Robert Brent Bowen, 48 years old died in 2014. Her sisters, Pansy Bandy, Louise Durham, Lucretia Brown, Sally Oliff, Joann Oliff, Mae Clemmer and Milchin Dyson and brothers, C.N. Booth, Jr. and William Booth also preceded her in death.
She is survived by two sisters, Ruby Ethel Spradling (101 years old) of Thomasville, GA and Wanda Lee Mudd of Huntingtown, MD; one brother, John Edward Booth of Crawfordville, Florida; one brother-in-law, Steve Oliff of Stanfield, NC and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Evelyn loved family. She loved to “tease” people by saying quirky little things, then say “I was just teasing”. One of her favorite things was to take one of her brothers-in-law or brothers’ hat and hid them. And there are various other ways that she enjoyed making mischief at family gatherings.
Her family and friends will miss Evelyn in the years to come and remember her with great love, fondness, and respect.
Graveside service and interment will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 5, 2023 at Chattanooga National Cemetery in Chattanooga, TN. No service or visitation will be held at High’s.
