Ferman Jay Young, age 96, a McMinnville, TN resident and DeKalb County, TN native was born August 4, 1922 and passed away January 14, 2019 in St. Thomas River Park Hospital following a brief illness. He was a WWII veteran of the United States Army, retired co-owner of Morgan & Young Parts, Inc., member of Central Church of Christ and son of the late Shelie and Effie Poss Young. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Lou Griffin, Cleon Barnes and Clessie Goodnight; and brothers, Lewis Young and Clarence Young. Mr. Young was married February 14, 1948 to Evelyn Fariss Young who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Stephen (Diane) Young and Donna (Larry) Williams both of McMinnville; four grandchildren, Ashlie Young Dorton (Matthew) of Knoxville, TN, Shellie Young of Maryville, TN, Kayla Williams Fann (Shawn) of Tullahoma, TN and Ryan Williams of McMinnville; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Elmus Young and Dean (Gloria) Young both of McMinnville and Dillard (Billie) Young of Arkansas; two sisters-in-law, Alma Fariss and Janey Young both of McMinnville; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2019 in High’s Chapel with Tim Fariss to officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. View Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and 12:00 p.m. Wednesday until the time of service at High’s. Memorial contributions may also be made to Meals on Wheels.
