Franklin Delano Roosevelt Womack

McMinnville

Lifelong McMinnville resident and Warren County native Franklin Delano Roosevelt Womack, age 84, was born May 19, 1940 and died March 5, 2025 at NHC Healthcare of McMinnville following an extended illness.

A retired employee of BRC and Boyd Nursery and member of Hiawassee Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Ernest and Lucille Smith Womack. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son, Rodney Thomas and siblings, Dorothy Grayson, Virginia Alexander, Ernestine Bonner, Maggie McReynolds, Edward Womack, Bob Womack and Charles Womack. 

Franklin attended Bernard School where he played on the high school football team as an end and running back. He grew up in and attended Bouldin Green Methodist Church in Faulkner Springs. He later gave his life to Christ and was baptized into Christ. He enjoyed landscaping and taking care of his yard as well as his family and friends. He loved doing for others. He enjoyed joking and making other people laugh, loved listening to gospel music and his favorite group was The Mighty Clouds of Joy. His favorite song was "The Rough Side of the Mountain". 

Mr. Womack was married in June of 1961 to Loretta Ikeard Womack of McMinnville who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by eleven children, Betty Harris (Carl Hill) of McMinnville, James Thomas of Morrison, Dianne Wood of McMinnville, Vanessa Womack of VA, Angie (Arnaldo) Dennis Davila of McMinnville, Tonya (Brad) Martin-Newman of GA, Jamie Blevins, Melvin Ramsey, Charlie Ikeard, Veronica Martin and Landon Martin all of McMinnville; twenty grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and lifelong friend, Carl Scottin of Washington.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2025 in High’s Chapel with Marty Gribble to officiate. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Warren County. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at High’s.
