Garrel Roberts

June 26, 1938 — March 25, 2020

Garrel O. Roberts, son of Shelly Hillis Roberts and Albert T. Roberts, passed away March 25, 2020, after a long illness. In 1960, Garrel married Betty Ruth Dunlap, and they have two children, Alisa Collins (Danny) and Darrell Roberts (Kelly), and two grandchildren, Reagan and Shelby Roberts. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Marshal Roberts. Garrel was a veteran of the U.S. Army. While in Ft. Benning, he worked to raise the CSS Chattahoochee, a sunken Confederate gunboat. (The boat is now part of the museum in Columbus, Georgia.) During his time in the Army, he sharpened his skills of running heavy equipment. He spent much of his young adult life working in road construction, as an operator and later a foreman. Afterward, he purchased his own business, B & G Grave Service, where he worked, at times alongside his son. Garrel also farmed, raising crops and cattle to provide for his family. He took great pride in doing a job well. Garrel was a generous person who was willing to help anyone in need. More importantly, he was a loving and devoted son, brother, friend, neighbor, husband, father, and “Pa”. Due to the COVID-19 precautions, a graveside service was held for immediate family at Shellsford Cemetery on Friday, March 27, 2020. Condolences to the family may be sent online via the High Funeral Home website (www.highfuneralhome.com) or by leaving a phone message at (615) 669-6464. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association at lbda.org. or mailed to Lewy Body Dementia Association, Inc., 912 Killian Hill Road S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047. High Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
