Gaylon Shiel

April 11, 1941 — September 28, 2018

Gaylon Shiel, age 77, a Warren County, TN resident and Dallas, TX native was born April 11, 1941 and passed away September 28, 2018 in Alive Hospice of Murfreesboro following a sudden illness.He was a retired employee of Teledyne Geotech Corporation, member of Victory Free Will Baptist Church and son of the late Charles Carroll and Ida Mae Shiel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Annice Kendrick; and very special aunt, Betty King.Gaylon is best remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed close relationships with family and friends. He was well regarded and respected for his trustworthiness and his ability to always maintain every confidence ever disclosed to him.Most who knew and loved him did not realize he obtained awards from the Department of the Navy and the National Science Foundation for his service in Antarctica for his valuable exploration and scientific contributions in the U.S. Antarctic Research Program. He enjoyed working all over the world throughout his career, including Alaska, Bermuda, Panama, Norway, Canada and many parts of the U.S. Mr. Shiel was married December 31, 1994 to Emogene Certain Shiel who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Jeanette West of Fairlawn, OH and Kathryn “Trina” Pearl of Akron, OH; two step-sons, Carl Scott and wife Sook and Gregory Scott all of Illinois; step-daughter, Kimberly Diane Barry of Smyrna, TN; grandchildren, Joseph Barry, Jax Irby, Cale Scott, Joshua Scott, Nick Scott, Jenny Forrester, Ily Scott, Cooper Scott, Aylish Scott and Sawyer Scott; brother-in-law, John Kendrick and wife Gail of Garland, TX; very special friends, Alex and Linda Griego of Albuquerque, NM, Bill Taylor of Doyle, TN and Lemuel and Linda Seal of Morrison, TN; very special niece, Marsha Jackson and nephew Jeff Risgby of Warren County; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, October 1, 2018 in High’s Chapel with Brother Kenneth Kirby to officiate. Interment will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday and 9:00 a.m. Monday until the time of service at High’s.Online condolences may be made at www.highfuneralhome.comHigh Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
