George Edward Smartt, Jr. moved to his Heavenly home June 20, 2023. He died from a brief illness and during that time he never showed fear because he was ready to meet our Heavenly Father and in his words, “he had his bags packed and tucked away in his heart”.
He was born February 13, 1944 to George Sidney Smartt and Cora Genevia Slaughter. He was married to his loving wife of 57 years Linda Watts Smartt. He is survived by three children, Johnny (Kristi) Smartt, Jeff Smartt and Vickie (Larry) Priest. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Casey Smartt, Rylon Smartt and Kayla Smartt, Brittany Smartt, Shayla (Charles) Lynch, Jonathan (Mirrandie) Smartt, Jeff Smartt, Jr., Laken (Cody) Duke, Tyler Smartt; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Treva (Ray) Perry, Arnold Smartt and Gail Smartt; special sister-in-law, Betty Lee and several other special family and friends. He was preceded in death by siblings, James Archie and Loyd Smartt and nephews, Sidney Smartt and Joseph “Bobo” Watts.
He retired from O’Neal Nursery as a supervisor and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. After retirement he started piddling with small engines, mowers, tillers and everything in between. What he enjoyed most about doing this is he enjoyed meeting and helping people. If he ever charged anybody it was very little. A good conversation would suit him just fine. George loved to talk about the Lord and he always encouraged others about their relationship with the Lord. He would always say, “I wish everyone would make it to Heaven”.
