George Edley "Ed" Newman, III

McMinnville, TN resident and Warren County, TN native George Edley “Ed” Newman, III, age 87, was born September 25, 1935 and died August 29, 2023 following an extended illness. 

A United States Army veteran, retired foreman from McMinnville Electric System and a member of First Presbyterian Church, he was the son of the late, George Edley Newman, Jr. and Mary Frances Locke Newman. He was married to Mamie Newman, who preceded him in death.                                                

Mr. Newman is survived by children, Glen (Angie) Newman and George (Heather) Newman, both of McMinnville, TN and Debbie Clark of Coffee County; three grandchildren, Clint (Jessica) Newman, Emily Newman and fiancé, Thomas Austin and  Shelby Newman, all of McMinnville, TN; two great-grandchildren, Calvin and Cooper Newman of McMinnville, TN; brother, Robert (Marsha) Newman of McMinnville, TN; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Faye and Terry Young of Rock Island, TN and  several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Meals on Wheels or the charity of your choice.

Full military honors will be administered by American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5064.

Graveside service and interment will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, August 31, 2023 at Liberty Cemetery in Warren County, TN with Harry Green officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at High Funeral Home.
