Gordon Edward Grissom

Bone Cave, TN resident and Van Buren County, TN native Gordon Edward Grissom, age 86, was born August 28, 1934 and died January 22, 2021 at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, TN following a brief illness. A retired Master Sergeant with the United States Air Force, United States Navy veteran of Korea, retired employee of Rock Island State Park, former Van Buren County Commissioner and self-employed rancher, he was the son of the late A.E. “Doc” and Dovie Alice Myers Grissom. He was married to Lois Jean Potter Grissom August 3, 1957, who preceded him in death November 7, 2019. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by brother, Gerald Grissom and sister, Nina Turner. Mr. Grissom is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Ed and Kim Grissom of Madison, AL and Del and Ellen Grissom of Knoxville, TN; four grandchildren and spouse, Alice Grissom, Alan Grissom, Claire and Roman Ottinger, and Ethan Grissom; sister, JoAnn Tate of McMinnville, TN; beloved brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside service and interment will be held Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Long Cemetery in Van Buren County, TN with Bob McCoy and John Roberts officiating. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at High’s. Military grave rites will be administered by American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5064 Honor Guards.
