Herbert Glen Walker, Sr., age 85, died at Willow Branch following an extended illness. He was born February 14, 1936 in Beersheba Springs to the late Elijah Andrew and Rosa Mae Dickey Walker and later moved to McMinnville with his wife, to raise a family. Herbert was brought up in the timber industry and had a tremendous love of working with timber, vehicles, and guns. He worked at Century, Gould, Magnatek, and A.O. Smith to his retirement after 38 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Iris Nell (Wanamaker) Walker; son, Anthony Wayne Walker; sister, Peggy Joyce Kresta. He is survived by six children, Herbert G. “Herby” (Janice) Walker, Jr., Brad (Toney Wanamaker) Walker, and Mechelle Walker all of McMinnville, Darlene “Cindy” Rice of Tullahoma, TN, Jerry (Ransley ILario) Walker of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and James Michael “Mike” (Jackie) Walker, Sr. of Putnam County, TN; five grandchildren, Chris Walker and James Walker of McMinnville, Kristen Amos and Colby (Mindy) Rogers of Tullahoma, and Joshua Braden of Indiana; ten great-grandchildren, Blake, Paten, and Chevy Walker, Trey, Ashanti, and Landin Rogers, Olivia Hogan, Caleb Amos, and Claudia and Maeve Walker; sisters, Frances (Donnie) Hillis of McMinnville and Christine (Timmy) Stephens of Murfreesboro, TN; and special brother-in-law, David (Ella) Wanamaker of McMinnville, TN. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon Thursday, December 2, 2021 in High’s Chapel. Interment will be held in Walker Cemetery at Beersheba Springs in Grundy County. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at High’s.
