Hugh L. "Stubby" Stubblefield

McMinnville resident and Warren County native Hugh L. "Stubby" Stubblefield, age 95, was born September 30, 1922 and died September 2, 2018 at Raintree Manor following an extended illness.The retired owner/operator of Stubby's Dry Cleaners and member of Westwood Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Mack and Annie Barnes Stubblefield.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Glenn, Kenneth, Edward and Charles Stubblefield and two sisters, Edith Medley and Roberta Robinson.Mr. Stubblefield was a United States Navy veteran of WWII from 1943 until 1946.  His ship, which was located most of the three years in the South Pacific, was hit by a Japanese Kamikaze attack.  He was a member of the McMinnville Croquet Club and was a state champion croquet player.  He was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing, hunting and playing golf.  Mr. Stubblefield dearly loved his wife and family and was married June 1, 1947 to Elizabeth Priest Stubblefield of McMinnville.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children and their spouses, Hugh Wayne (Francisca) Stubblefield of Kissimmee, FL and Pat (Wally) McClarren and Dale (Teresa) Stubblefield both of McMinnville;  seven grandchildren, Lisa (Randy) Barber, Ginger (Bob) Young, Angie (Russell) Dodson, Brent (Misty) Warren, Shannon (Charlie) Martin, Candace (Dee Jay) Roland & Catherine (Jon) Bryant;  thirteen great-grandchildren;  sister, Judie Woodlee of McMinnville;  several nieces, nephews and cousins;  three sisters-in-law, Jane Stubblefield, Jean Priest and Anne Madewell all of McMinnville and special caregivers, Tina Boston, Bernita Myers, Vickie Sparks, Renee Neal and Alice Glenn.A graveside service and interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Mt. View Cemetery with Hugh Wayne Stubblefield, Wally McClarren and Dale Stubblefield officiating.  Full military honors will be administered by the American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5064.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday at High's.  There will be no visitation at High's on Tuesday, family and friends will meet at Mt. View Cemetery for the graveside service.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association c/o High's.Online condolences may be made at www.highfuneralhome.com.High Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
