James Vernon Barnes, Jr. "Jimmy"

McMinnville resident and Warren County native James V. Barnes, Jr. “Jimmy”, age 76, was born October 19, 1948 and died October 21, 2024 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN following a brief illness. 

Retired owner of Vernon Barnes and Son Nursery and a member of the Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Vernon and Ottolynne Cartwright Barnes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by special aunts, Dean (James) Savage and Lois Cartwright. 

He was married to Wanda Barnes of McMinnville on May 29, 1982. In addition to his wife, Jimmy is survived by children, James Green and Kerrie Elizabeth Barnes Shockey, both of McMinnville; grandchildren, Jax Xander Green, Eli James Daniel Shockey and Isaiah Jacob Lucas Shockey; special cousins, Malinda Brown and Jeff Cartwright; several other cousins and special friends, Jeff Cope and Joe King and family. 

Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, October 25, 2024 in High’s Chapel with Jon Simmons and Rickey Magness officiating. Burial will follow at Smyrna Cemetery in Warren County. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Friday from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at High’s.
