James Dewey Daniel, age 78, of Antioch, TN passed away from a lingering illness on July 31, 2021. His parents were James Wade and Maude Emma Daniel of Lynchburg and Nashville. His grandparents were JT “Jim” Daniel and Kathryn Setliff Daniel of Lynchburg, TN. Maternal grandparents were Miles J. Webb and Bessie Webb of Lamar, Arkansas. He is survived by wife of 49 years, Linda Smith Daniel of Antioch, TN; two brothers, Tom (Carol) Daniel of Anchorage, Alaska and Joe Bill Daniel of Nashville, TN; niece, Trina (Cody) Ruck; and great-nephew, Daniel Ruck of Hendersonville, TN also survive. Mr. Daniel attended grammar school in Lynchburg and Nashville. He graduated in 1961 from David Lipscomb High School and received a B.S. in Industrial Technology in 1965 from Tennessee Tech University. He served his country for five years in the U.S. Army as a warrant officer. He was an instructor helicopter pilot at Fort Rucker in Alabama and later served in Vietnam where he transported injured troops by helicopter. Following this he served in the Tennessee Army National Guard as chief warrant officer and instructor pilot. He worked for General Shale at McMinnville Concrete and was manager of Cumberland Mountain Sand plant. He later worked for the State of Tennessee in Civil Defense and as a pilot. He worked for Clinical Laboratories where he flew doctors and pathologists to smaller towns to consult. He flew for Park View Hospital in SkyMed, an emergency medical helicopter, and finally worked for Thompson Machinery where he piloted their plane, helicopter, and lear jet. He retired from Thompson in their sales department after a number of years. Mr. Daniel felt fortunate to have had jobs he enjoyed in his career and considered them as service to God. He was a member of Westwood Church of Christ in his earlier years and currently Donelson Church of Christ in Nashville. He loved God, family, and country. Graveside service and interment will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 5, 2021 at Hebron Cemetery in Warren County, TN with Julian Goodpaster officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at High’s. Full military honors will be administered by American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5064. A Celebration of Life service will be at Donelson Church of Christ in Nashville on Saturday, August 7, 2021.
