James Earl Jones

April 16, 1951 — August 24, 2020

Peacefully and surrounded by his family, James Earl Jones passed away August 24, 2020 at the age of 69. He was a retired U.S. Army veteran of the Gulf War, a retired self-employed construction contractor, a member of Covenant Fellowship Church, and the son of the late James H. and Edna Earle Wiggins Jones. He was also preceded in death by brother, Wayne Jones; sister, Linda Faye Jones; father-in-law, Ben Wright; and mother-in-law, Dolores Sain. Mr. Jones was married July 28, 1979 to his best friend and constant companion for 41 years, Karen Jo Wright Jones. In addition to his wife, he is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan J. and Lacey Jones; daughter, Tiffany Jones Gannon; four grandchildren, Jackson and Ransom Jones, and Boone and Austie Gannon; two step-mothers, Mary Frances Jones, and Sarah Webster; brothers and sisters-in-law, Shelton Jones (Jenny Faye Jones), and Jimmy Jones (Almeta Jones); sisters and brothers-in-law, Kandi Steele, Tonjua Smith (Mark Smith), and Sara Leen Davis (Jimmy Davis); brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Rodney and Joyce Wright, and Derrick and Belinda Hash. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He will be fondly remembered by his full of life personality, generous heart, and kind spirit. He kept his company filled with laughter with his ongoing humor. He would never miss the opportunity to tell you his latest joke or stories of his glory days in the United States Armed Forces. James was a man of many passions including a lover of music, a talented artist, “street rod” restorer, and avid outdoors man. He was no stranger to hard work and put much pride into his position as a construction foreman during his working years. He was known for his attention to detail and “no shortcuts” work ethic. He was greatly respected by his peers and co-workers over the years and in return his services stayed in constant demand up until the day of his passing. Of his most accomplished accolades being a “Pa” to his four grandchildren ranked the highest. Nothing made him more proud than smiling faces of his four grandchildren. Three boys and one girl kept his heart full and his schedule busy. Ballgames, days at the creek, fair days, deer hunting, and dance recitals just to name a few. It is no doubt that his spirit will continue to live through them from here on out. A graveside service and interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 27, 2020 at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Warren County, TN with Dean Northcutt officiating. Family and friends are to meet at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Covenant Academy c/o High’s. Online condolences may be made at www.highfuneralhome.com High Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
