James Edward Baker

James Edward Baker, age 86, a McMinnville, TN resident and Van Buren County native was born November 15, 1933 and passed away March 25, 2020 at the V.A. Medical Center in Nashville following a brief illness. He was a longtime employee of Rockford Textile Mill, a veteran with the U.S. Army, and the son of the late J.D. and Emma Lou Mills Baker. He was also preceded in death by infant son, Michael Edward Baker; brothers, Charles and Ben Baker and brother-in-law, Ansel Simmons. Mr. Baker was married March 11, 1953 to Shirley Marie Potter Baker who survives. He is also survived by daughters, Marilyn Bain and Glenda (Randy) Rice both of McMinnville; grandchildren, Michael Medley, Dusty (Chelsey) Rice, and Jamie (Craig) Jaco all of McMinnville; great-grandchildren, Lexi and Gage Medley, Livia and Wyatt Jaco, and River Rice all of McMinnville; sisters, Betty Simmons, Jennie Sue (J.D.) Simmons, and Geneva Ann (Earl Gene) Yates all of Spencer; sisters-in-law, Pearline Baker of McMinnville and Charlotte Baker of Pikeville. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Baker was a devoted father and pa to his grandkids. Most enjoyment was spending time with his family. Graveside service and interment will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2020 at Spencer Town Cemetery in Spencer, TN with military grave rites conducted by the American Legion Post 173.
