McMinnville resident and Warren County native James Edward Kirby, Sr., age 93, was born May 4, 1929 and died July 4, 2022 at NHC Healthcare McMinnville following an extended illness. A retired nurseryman and carpenter and member of Earleyville Church of Christ, he was the son of the late George Robert and Minnie Mai Glenn Kirby. He was married December 19, 1947 to the mother of his children, Lona Moffitt Kirby, who preceded him in death August 14, 1986. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Larry Robert Kirby; second wife, Virginia Smith Kirby; sister, Robbie Trainor and infant granddaughter, Amanda Kirby. Mr. Kirby is survived by four children, Betty (Ronnie) Whitlock, James Edward "Eddie" (Chris) Kirby, Jr., Terry Lynn (Anita) Kirby and Charles Michael "Mike" Kirby; eight grandchildren, Brian Whitlock, Brandon Whitlock, Amber Becker, Grant Kirby, Kyle Kirby, Jared Kirby, Bradford Kirby and Joshua Kirby; two brothers, Douglas Kirby and Ralph (Willie Mae "Bill") Kirby; sister, Glynda (Wallace) Stevens; daughter-in-law, Debbie Kirby and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A graveside service and interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2022 at Womack Cemetery with Brian Whitlock officiating. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery for the graveside service. There will be no visitation at High's. The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Trey Kirby, the nurses and other caregivers at NHC McMinnville, where he made his home in the rehab section for the last three years and to Caris Hospice.
