James Russell Hamblen, DDS was born September 23, 1943 in Charleston, SC, and passed of an extended illness on October 14, 2021 at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville, TN. The son of the late Capt. E.A. and Ruth Hamblen, Dr. Hamblen graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in 1966 then served his country in the United States Navy. In 1969, he chose to make McMinnville his home and opened his dental practice on October 1. He was a life member of both the American Dental Association and the Tennessee Dental Association, where he was a past-president of the 4th District Dental Society. He was a member at Christ United Methodist Church where he had served the church in various capacities. He was a charter member and past-president of the McMinnville Breakfast Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. He showed his love of the community through his acts of service and dedication to his profession. In addition to wife Carol Lee Hamblen, Dr. Hamblen is survived by children, Michele (Chris) Brandjes of Knoxville, TN, Douglas (Kimberly) Hamblen of Leesburg, GA, Jason (Genevieve) Hamblen of Eads, TN, Leann (Dustin) Long of Vestavia Hills, AL, Megan (John) Taylor of McMinnville, and 16 grandchildren. He is also survived by brother, Bruce (Mary Ann) Hamblen of Jackson, TN, sister, Eunice Hamblen of Lighthouse Point, FL, and aunt, Jane Proffitt of Nashville, TN, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday and 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Sunday at High Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday in High’s Chapel with Summer Worley officiating. Burial will be at Friendship Cemetery in Campaign.
