Jesse Benjamin Thaxton, Jr., age 98, a McMinnville, TN resident and Davidson County, TN native, was born December 29, 1921 and passed November 30, 2020 at St. Thomas Rutherford following a brief illness. He was a retired insurance underwriter and a ticket agent at the local Greyhound Bus Lines, a United States Army Air Corp. veteran of WWII, and the son of the late Jesse Benjamin and Inez Littlefield Thaxton, Sr. He was a member of First United Methodist Church for 78 years where he was a devout servant of the Lord. He was a member of the men’s fellowship class, and in 2010 was recognized for his devoted service to the church. He was also involved with Meals on Wheels in McMinnville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ted Thaxton and Bill Thaxton. Mr. Thaxton is survived by nieces and nephews, Ted Thaxton, Jr of Suwanee, GA, Clay and Linda Thaxton of Roxboro, NC, Celia George of Xenia, Ohio, Douglas Harpe of Raleigh, NC, and David Harpe and family of Raleigh, NC. Graveside service and interment will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, December 5, 2020 in Mt. Zion Cemetery with Dick Scott Welch, Robert Case, and John Purdue officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at High’s. The family request that everyone wear mask and practice social distancing.
