Jimmy Leon Slatton

Jimmy Leon Slatton, age 70, a Sparta, TN resident and Van Buren County, TN native, was born June 11, 1950 and passed October 11, 2020 at NHC Healthcare in Cookeville, TN following an extended illness. He was a retired truck driver with Batesville Casket Company where he drove for 34 years, a United States Army Veteran of Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division, and the son of Dorothy Mai Miller Slatton of Doyle, TN and the late Leonard Kenneth “Mayor” Slatton. He was also preceded in death by a niece. Mr. Slatton was married July 4, 1981 to Joan Gail Hillis Slatton of Sparta, TN. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by brother, Robert (Joyce) Slatton of Doyle, TN. Several family members, friends, nieces, & nephews also survive. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cookeville Cancer Center, 142 W 5th St., Cookeville, TN 38501, or the American Legion Post 173 Honor Guard. A graveside service and interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at Mt. View Cemetery on Hwy 30 in Rock Island, TN with Richard Bowman officiating. Family and friends are to meet at cemetery. No visitation will be held at High’s. Military grave rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 173 Honor Guard.
