John William “Leroy” Hale, age 90, a McMinnville, TN resident and native was born July 11, 1928 and passed away November 1, 2018 at his residence following an extended illness.He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and the National Guard, retired Transportation Supervisor for Warren County Schools, member of Gath Baptist Church and son of the late Will and Mary Pauline Cooley Hale. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by former wife and mother of his children, Dixie Johnston Hale; siblings, Henry Edwin Hale, Willette Richardson, Inez Packard, George Barry Hale, Haskel Hale, Ruth Grizzell, June Joines, Fred Louis Hale and Winford Timothy Hale; and step-son, Timothy Dale Ferrell. Mr. Hale was married August 1, 1991 to Wanda Dishman Hale of McMinnville who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Hoyt Hale, Debbie (Bryan) Mason, Terri Tanner (Tommy Boyd) and Missie (Ed) Griffin all of McMinnville; ten grandchildren, Darrell Sparkman, Jonathan Hale, Valerie Womack, Ami Mason, Allen Mason, Jenny Tanner, Meredith (Stacy) Woodlee, Justin (Shay) Tanner, Sarah (Kirk) Ruoff and Haley Griffin (Austin Medley); twelve great-grandchildren, Dylan Womack, Sofia Womack, Daniel (Crystal) Young, Dustin Fults, Taylor Jaco, Emily Jaco, Tori Woodlee, Tyla Woodlee, Wyatt Tanner, Caroline Tanner, Tanner Ruoff and Reagan Medley; two great-great-grandchildren, Charlee Young and Marshall Young; sister, Jane Ann Hale of McMinnville; brother and sister-in-law, Nathan (Eva) Hale of Rutherford County, TN; and several nieces and nephews.Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 4, 2018 in High’s Chapel with Nathan Hale and Rachel Cantrell to officiate. Interment will follow in Gath Cemetery.
