Johneen Gordy Winton, 88, passed away Thursday, October 6 after a lengthy illness. Johneen was born to the late James Edward and Hassie Loring (Mathis) Gordy on October 14, 1933. She was married to the late JD Winton. Johneen was predeceased by her husband, JD Winton and her sister, Maxine Gordy Winton. Ms. Winton is survived by her brother, Paul Gordy, her son, James (Karen) and grandson, James II (Jennifer) as well as a great grandson, Theodore Joseph and many nieces and nephews. Johneen was a 1952 graduate of Central High School. She attended Middle Tennessee State University and worked in Nashville, TN. After marrying and traveling with her husband, Mrs. Winton relocated to Boaz, AL with her family in 1976 and was a long-time staff member at Snead State Community College. After retiring she moved to Greenville, SC to be near family. She loved art and was an avid reader. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, and deep commitment to the care of her family. A graveside service and interment will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, October 13, 2022 at Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Rick Lyles officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Thursday at High's. Memorial gifts for the Alzheimer's Association are also appreciated.
