Johnny L. Ashley, age 76, a Warren County, TN resident and Van Buren County native was born March 10, 1942 and passed away March 7, 2019 at his residence following a sudden illness. He was a United States Army veteran of Vietnam, retired employee of Powermatic and son of the late Russell L. and Minnie Notie Mooneyham Ashley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers and sister-in-law, Neal Ashley and Herbert and Aline Ashley; brother-in-law, Thorold Ramsey; and nephew, Patrick Ramsey. Johnny was a kind and creative man who was loved by everyone who knew him. One of his greatest joys was to quietly share the fruits of his garden with neighbors, family and friends, or anyone who needed a hand. He believed his main purpose in life was to help those he could and always be kind. After Johnny retired from Powermatic, he enrolled in the Arrowmont School of Arts in Gatlinburg, TN where he became an accomplished student in woodworking. His ability to create one-of-a-kind unique bowls made him one of the most sought after designers throughout the woodworking world. To be one of the recipients of his work was indeed an honor. Mr. Ashley is survived by his sister, Notie Ashley Ramsey of McMinnville; niece, Mitzi Ramsey of McMinnville; and great-niece, Raven Dixon of Murfreesboro.
