McMinnville, TN resident and Van Buren County, TN native, Josie Beatrice Whitman, age 78, was born March 30, 1942 and passed away September 5, 2020 at her residence following an extended illness. A retired secretary with Stanton Oil Company and a member of Oasis Church, she was the daughter of the late John William Austin and Laura Mae Whitworth Gibbs, Jr. She was married to Dean Whitman who preceded her in death January 14, 2012. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by son, William Joe March and grandson, Michael Anthony Betts. Mrs. Whitman is survived by five children, Michael Keith Combs of McMinnville, TN, John Anthony Combs of McMinnville, TN, Michelle Marie (David) Betts of Murfreesboro, TN, Melissa Mae (Roger) Farrar of McMinnville, TN and Rebecca Jo (Delane) Thomas of Manchester, TN; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brother, Johnny (Vickie) Gibbs of Rock Island, TN; sister, Pattie (Bill) Koontz of South Carolina; several nieces and nephews also survive A graveside service and inurnment will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday September 10, 2020 at Crain Hill Cemetery in Van Buren County, TN with Sid Stanton officiating. Friends and family are to meet at the cemetery. There will be no visitation or service at High’s.
