Rock Island, TN resident and Warren County, TN native Julia Elizabeth Carter, age 80, was born October 2, 1942 and died November 1, 2022 at Life Care Center of Sparta following a sudden illness.
A retired schoolteacher with Irving College Elementary School and member of Rock Island Church of Christ, she was the daughter of the late Hobert and Nora Lee Elrod Griffith. She was a 1960 graduate of City High, 1963 graduate of Lipscomb University, a volunteer with NAMI and a volunteer and winner of the bell ringer award with Cheer Mental Health.
She was married to Doug Carter of Rock Island, TN on November 5, 1988. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by nephew, Davy Griffith.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Carter is survived by daughter, Michelle Manning; step-daughter and step-son-in-law, Denise and Steve Flatt; special grandson, Josh Simmons; granddaughter, Kappie Richardson; great-granddaughter, Eliose Julia Ann Simmons; two step-grandsons, Paul and Phillip Flatt; brothers and sisters-in-law, Morris and Scarlett Griffith and Don and Susie Griffith; three sisters-in-law, Shirrell Carter, Joan Tollison and June Brock; two nieces; four nephews and many friends.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 4, 2022 in High’s Chapel with Wally Siebers and John Pelham officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Cemetery in McMinnville, TN. Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at High’s.
