Karen Ann Hennessee (Atnip) Phillips, age 75, native of Warren County, departed this world on December 1, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Born on January 10, 1948, to Clyde Raymond Hollis Hennessee and Maggie Lee Woods, Karen's life was a testament to dedication, compassion, and devotion.
Karen's unwavering commitment to her loved ones was exemplified in her role as a loving wife to Mike Phillips of Clarksville. While they found each other later in life, the bond they shared was a testament to the power of love and marriage.
Karen loved her daughters deeply and was proud of both of them. Her time with them and her grandchildren brought her untold joy and happiness. Her oldest daughter is Tonjia (Jerry) Potts of Santa Fe, TN. Their daughters are Kara Lane Potts and Molly Ann Potts. Karen’s youngest daughter is Linda Dale (Adam) Patton of McMinnville, TN. Their sons are Caleb Lee Lewis and David Allen Patton. Lovingly referred to as “Granny Kat,” she doted on them all with unending love and took great joy in witnessing their growth, milestones, and achievements.
Karen’s best friend, Dreama Moceri, was by her side through the best and worst of times, all the way to the end. The family is grateful to her for her dedication to and love of our mother.
Karen is also survived by her sister, Linda Caroline Walker and her brother, David Earl Hennessee, both of McMinnville, along with many nieces and nephews. Together, they formed a close-knit family, bound by shared experiences and unwavering support.
Karen's memory will be cherished by her step-children, John (B.J.) Atnip of Smithville and Michael (Shahna) Phillips, II, Sadie Marie Phillips, Tracie Phillips and David Phillips, all of Michigan. Their children include J.R. Atnip, Hunter Atnip, Catalina Phillips, Delanie Phillips and Delilah Phillips.
Education played a significant role in Karen's life. She graduated from Warren County High School, Class of 1966. She worked for many years in both McMinnville and Smithville. However, when Aqua Tech shut down, she took a leap of faith and followed her life-long dream of attending nursing school, finishing with her LPN degree at 54 years old. She continued as a nurse for the next 21 years, until her passing this past week. Her dedication to the field of nursing was a testament to her caring nature and desire to make a difference in the lives of others.
A memorial service will be held to honor Karen's life at Westside Baptist Church, 1100 S. Chancery Street, McMinnville, TN, a place of solace and spiritual nourishment for her. Sunday, December 10, 2023, the church will open its doors for visitation from 1:00 to 2:00, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 with Nathan Smith officiating, offering an opportunity for loved ones to pay their respects and bid farewell.
