Leonard Kenneth “Mayor” Slatton, age 91, a Doyle, TN resident and Van Buren County native was born July 4, 1928 and passed away July 19, 2019 in Life Care Center of Sparta following a brief illness. He was a retired State of TN Revenue Officer, farmer and school teacher. Mr. Slatton was employed at the Oak Ridge Nuclear Facility during World War II. He enjoyed fishing, riding his four-wheeler around the farm, music and always had a keen interest in the Hatfield’s and McCoy’s feud. He loved living on his knob view farm. He was a member of McElroy Church of Christ and son of the late Kenneth and Violet McCoy Slatton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Carl Melton Slatton and granddaughter, Jennifer Dawn Slatton. Mr. Slatton was married December 23, 1947 to Dorothy Mai Slatton who survives. In addition to his wife, he was survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy L. and Joan Slatton of Sparta and Robert K. and Joyce Slatton of Doyle; granddaughter, Misty Dawn Slatton of McMinnville; grandson, Justin Slatton of Nashville; step-granddaughter, Courtney and Matt Daniel of Franklin; step-great-grandchildren, Parker and Sawyer Daniel; and many cousins and friends. Graveside service and interment will be held at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2019 in McElroy Cemetery with Doug Goff to officiate. There will be no service or visitation at High’s. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cookeville Regional Cancer Center or your favorite cancer charity.
