Quebeck, TN resident and Blount County, TN native Leroy Dale Simerly, age 82, was born July 4, 1941 and died March 16, 2024 at his home surrounded by loved ones after a two-year battle with cancer. A veteran of the United States Army with the 82nd Airborne Division, paratrooper, retired employee of Sullivan Electric in Nashville, TN and member of Quebeck Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Jerry Lloyd and Sylvia Dean Brown Simerly. He loved all his church family, was an avid outdoorsman and fisherman, loved farming and his John Deere tractor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Donald (Pat), Lester, Wayne (Eleanor) and Jimmy Simerly; infant brother; brothers-in-law, Garnett McCormick, Arlen (Delores) McCormick, Jr. McCormick, George Paquette and Gary Gooch; sister-in-law, JoAnn (Bill) Page and sons-in-law, Vernon Powers and Jerry Trapp. He was married September 15, 1962 to Johnnie Sue McCormack Simerly of Quebeck who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Gail (Eddie) Thomas of Tennessee, Pamela Sue Powers (Todd Whitmore) of Missouri and Anthony Lynn (Janice) Simerly of Ohio; four grandchildren, Brandon Lee (Jessica) Powers, Jake Nathaniel Trapp, Quade Thomas and Caylan Thomas; two great-grandchildren, Makade Trapp and Madelyn Trapp; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, William (Betty) McCormick of McMinnville, Carlene (Charles) Butts of Quebeck, TN, Patsy Paquette of Morrison and Lue Simerly of Nashville, TN; several nieces and nephews and special friends, Doris Hibdon, Lonnie Slatton and Charlie Butts. Funeral service will be held Thursday, March 21, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. in High’s Chapel with Don Shuster to officiate. Interment will follow at Smyrna Cemetery in Warren County, TN with full military honors administered by American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5064. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at High’s.
