Marvin Taylor Lusk, Jr., fondly known as MT, quietly transitioned from this life on Thursday, December 5, 2024. He was born January 20, 1947, to the late Marvin Taylor Lusk, Sr. and Mollie Monroe Paige Lusk in McMinnville, TN. He attended Pleasant Hill Elementary, then Bernard High from 1961-1963. He graduated from Central High School in 1965. After high school graduation, he enrolled at Tennessee State University (TSU) and earned his bachelor’s in history and political science in 1969. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. After serving for 16 months, he was released due to a family hardship. In the fall of 1974, he returned to TSU to earn a master’s degree in history, graduating in 1977.
He served as Vice-President of Tennessee College of Applied Technology McMinnville for 41 years while owning and operating the Lusk Family Farm here in Warren County.
Mr. Lusk was regularly active in the county and surrounding areas. He was on the board of Directors for Warren County Co-Op, Farm Bureau, Magness Library, Tennessee Opportunity Programs, Inc., Past-President of Black History Museum, Past President of UC-DD, President of McMinnville Housing Authority. A member of the NAACP, Warren County Retired Teachers Association, and so many community services.
He was a member of Hiawassee Church of Christ where he participated in many activities and any other task that was needed. He served faithfully until his health failed him.
He was one of the recipients of the 2009 Chamber of Commerce Citizen of Year.
MT was known for his excellent farming skills and his kindness, often helping others. He enjoyed driving seniors to church services and doing things for people. He loved the church, his wife, children, farm, and family.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving attentive wife of 15 years, Henrietta Kellum Lusk, and his fellow farm fur companion “Charlie.” Also surviving are two children from a previous marriage, daughter Paige Lusk (Alex) Nelson, from Marrietta, GA, and son Marvin Taylor Lusk, III, from Texas. Two devoted stepsons, Major Erric (Patrica) Kellum from Old Hickory, TN and Dr. Ethan Kellum from Franklin, TN. Three loving sisters, Yvonne Carney, Nashville, TN; Joyce Penn from Cincinnati, OH; and Beverly Martin from Mt. Juliet, TN. Three grandchildren, Keleesi Marie Lusk, Sir Cameron Nelson, and Makia Nelson, ten step grandchildren. A sister-in-law, Karen (Jerry) Ross and a brother-in-law, William Joyner both of Henderson, TN and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors. One sister Mary Lou Savage preceded him death.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 14, 2024 at Central Church of Christ with Marty Gribble and George King to officiate. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery at Martin Charge. Full military honors will be administered by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at High's.
