Smithville, TN resident and Grundy County, TN native Melvin Pickett, age 73, was born July 10, 1946 and died March 27, 2020 at his residence following an extended illness. Retired from DeZurik, a United States Army veteran of Vietnam, and a member of Hebron Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Vernon Lester and Lassie Marilda Taylor Pickett. He was an avid sportsman, and loved fishing and hunting. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Herbert Eugene Pickett and Edward Lee Pickett; two sisters, Emelene Keener and Mary Barrett; sister-in-law, Nancy Pickett; and brother-in-law, Jimmy Keener. He is survived by four sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Trent Anderson, Earlene Keener, and Erma and Dan Fitch all of McMinnville, and Sadie Sullivan of Manchester, TN; brother, James Pickett of McMinnville; sister-in-law, Louise Pickett of McMinnville; brother-in-law, Hugh Barrett of McMinnville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. A graveside service and interment will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 30, 2020 in Center Hill Cemetery @ Hills Creek with Derrick Stiles officiating. Military grave rites will be administered by American Legion Post 173. There will be no visitation at High's. Family and friends are to meet at the cemetery.
