McMinnville, TN resident and native Patricia "Patti" Grace Strick Nunley, age 82, was born May 5, 1941 and died May 4, 2024 in St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital following an extended illness.
A former alderman and member of First Presbyterian Church, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Strick and Nan Collier Robinson. Mrs. Nunley was married June 26, 1960 to Charles "Shot" Nunley who preceded her in death.
Patti was the first female vice-mayor of McMinnville and worked on the downtown renovation project. She held many positions with the Girl Scouts of America, with her most notable being troop leader for troop 1045 when she led fundraising efforts and took 45 girls on a bus to Washington, DC. She was a Warren County Interact Club sponsor and director of the Warren County High School Band Flag Corps. Many clubs under her leadership were frequently named club of the year for Rotary District 6780. In 1985, she led a group of students to the International Rotary Conference in Kansas City to perform their winning talent show production. Along with Bill Gilley, she was co-founder of the McMinnville Learn to Swim Program and taught swimming lessons for many years. Patti was news director of WAKI radio station and co-host of Talk Back, The Morning View with Rob Jones. At First Presbyterian Church, she was a session member and member of the handbell choir and choir. She was a substitute teacher at Warren County High School and secretary at Marttala and Marttala law office. Patti was also a member of Desperados Waiting for a Train trivia team.
Mrs. Nunley is survived by daughter, Susan (David) Marttala of McMinnville; son, Charles N. (Allison) Nunley, Jr. of Murfreesboro, TN; grandchildren, Shelby Marttala (fiancé Shannon Threadgill), Will (Megan) Marttala, Lilly Marttala, Erin Nunley and Morgan (Dawson) Bailey; special friends, Franklin (Leanne) Fisher, Jenny Durham and Billy (Julie) Wood and caregiver, Rhett Pedigo.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2024 at First Presbyterian Church in McMinnville with Harry Green to officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at High's.
