Patsy Ann Sims Kuykendall of McMinnville, TN, was born on January 10, 1944, and passed from this life at home surrounded by family on June 20, 2024, at the age of 80 following long-term health issues.
Pat was a member of the Church of Christ. She is survived by her only son, Mark (Libby) Kuykendall of McMinnville; four grandchildren, Noah, Allie Shaye, Heath, and Eli Kuykendall; brother-in-law, James Kuykendall (Janet) of Cookeville; sister-in law, Patsy Sims of Jonesborough and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Kuykendall; her parents, Nathaniel and Etta Rose Sims; sister, Mary Louise Shull of Ashville, NC and brothers Bobby G. Sims of Jonesborough, TN and Roy Sims and Jack Sims both of Elizabethton, TN.
Patsy was a native of Carter County, but met a dashing engineer, Sam, while in high school. They fell in love and married. His work moved them to Clearwater, Florida where they had their only child Mark. Patsy developed a love for the beach while living in Florida and was able to visit the beach one last time within the last year of her life. After a move to Denver, they eventually took a job in McMinnville where Sam worked with Powermatic until his retirement. They made McMinnville their home, and Pat briefly attended Tennessee Tech in Cookeville. Pat served as a member and past president of Ben Lomand Garden Club and enjoyed the beauty of landscaping, flower arranging, and learning new cultures. She and Sam attended Westwood Church of Christ for many years where he was an active deacon until her illness kept them both from attending. She and her husband started Kuykendall Nursery which is now in its second and third generation.
