Pedro Antonio Paz, Sr., age 83, a Rock Island, TN resident and Pinar Del Rio, Cuba native, was born October 12, 1938 and died October 22, 2021 at Ascension St. Thomas West in Nashville following a brief illness. He was a retired educator and coach with the Warren County School System, a member of Christ United Methodist Church, and the son of the late Pedro Wenceslad and Blanca Antonia Manuela Quintero-Padron-Paz Rodriquez. Coach Paz is survived by wife of 62 years, Bettie Joanne Hudgens Paz; three children, Pedro A. “Tony” (Melissa Matthews) Paz of McMinnville, TN, Christopher “Chris” Hudgens (Mary Jane Lancaster) Paz of Loundon, TN, and Elizabeth “Lisa” Dawn Paz (Thomas Patrick) Mason, Jr. of McMinnville, TN; nine grandchildren, Samantha Anne Paz (Jensen) Bonner, Aprile Brooke Paz (Daulton) Foster, Joshua Christopher (Dr. Ashlin Martin) Paz, Jonathan Hughes (Dr. Megan Hobbs) Paz, Jesse Michelle Paz, Joanna Maria Paz (David) Vazquez, Jeremiah Thomas Paz, Madison Brooke Mason, and MaKenna Lake Mason; five great-grandchildren, Zorrie, Ella Jane, Cora Lee, Emma, and Jonah; sister, Lourdes Paz Dunaway of Crossville, TN; niece, Maria Carmen Dunaway; and nephews, Adam Dunaway and Dr. Peter Michael Dunaway. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 27, 2021 in High’s Chapel with Pastor Sommer Worley, Pastor Mark Carrigan, and Joanna Paz Vazquez officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Gilead Cemetery in White County. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at High’s. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ United Methodist Church.
