Phyl Taylor, 76, passed peacefully at her home, surrounded by family on March 5, 2025.
She was a dedicated wife, educator, and mother to all, hence everyone calling her "Mama Phyl". She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of McMinnville.
Phyl was born to Leeodus and Lorene Fowler on May 24, 1948 in Cookeville, TN and lived there through college. She earned degrees from TN Tech (B.S. in Business, Master's in Special Ed.), MTSU (Aerospace Edu.), T.S.U., and Vanderbilt. Phyl was a Special Ed. Teacher for many years, then an assistant principal until retirement at WCHS. She also ran Aerospace Workshops at MTSU during the summer. After retirement she regularly volunteered at Morrison Elem. Until 2020.
Phyl is survived by her husband, James Whitley Taylor; daughters, Shea Taylor, Lea Street (Alex), and Terri Biles (Steve); sister, Brenda Fowler and grandchild, Taylor Lyle.
Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her by her parents, Leeodus and Lorene Fowler and brother, Leeodus Fowler Jr.
She was admired by many and will be greatly missed by all.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2025 in High’s Chapel with Ryan Heatherly to officiate. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Warren County. Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at High’s.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to McMinnville Special Games in her honor/memory.
