Rad C. Spivey

Rad C. Spivey, age 93, a McMinnville, TN resident and Red Boiling Springs, TN native was born November 17, 1926 and passed away December 23, 2019 at St. Thomas Midtown following a brief illness. He was a U.S. Army veteran of Korea, a retired educator, a member of the Westwood Church of Christ, and the son of the late Radford Riggs and Olla McCoin Spivey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Helen Carter. He was a graduate of Red Boiling Springs High School and received his B.S. and M.A. degrees from Middle Tennessee State University. An educator for forty years, he served in several capacities in his chosen field. He was a classroom teacher and elementary and high school principal. He retired from education in 1990 after serving 18 years as Supervisor of Instruction with the Warren County School System. During his tenure in education he was selected by his peers to serve as president of the Upper Cumberland and the Middle Tennessee Supervisors Association. He was chosen as Warren County Retired Teacher of the Year in 2003. He was one of the first to be inducted into his High School Hall of Fame as a teacher. Mr. Spivey is survived by his wife of 57 years, Wanda Odle Spivey of McMinnville, TN. He is also survived by children and spouses, Debbie (Larry) Harris of Hendersonville, TN, Sandy (Mark) Hendrix of McMinnville, TN and Russ (Beth) Spivey of Murfreesboro, TN; five grandchildren, Ashley Harris, Scott and Sarah Harris, Sidney Spivey, Josie Spivey and Sophie Spivey and three great-grandsons, Eli Harris, Ethan Harris and Harrison Nesbitt. Visitation will be Thursday, December 26, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. in High’s Parlor. Visitation will be Friday from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Anderson and Son Funeral Home in Lafayette, TN, with a graveside service to follow at Anderson & Son Memorial Park at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Warren County Retired Teachers Scholarship Fund or Meals on Wheels.
