Ruth Elaine Matthews

McMinnville resident and Ruby, LA native Ruth Elaine Matthews, age 79, was born January 1, 1945 and died May 17, 2024 at NHC Healthcare in McMinnville following an extended illness.  

A homemaker and a member of the Baptist church, she was the daughter of the late William Hardy and Althea Fontenot Hines. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Inez Norris, Vivienne Wilbanks, Joyce Havis and Nell Pugh and son-in-law, Kevin Mitchell. 

She was married to Vernon Carroll Matthews of McMinnville on May 10, 1969. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Matthews is survived by two daughters, Christy (Hansford) Fairchild of Louisiana and Jane Mitchell of McMinnville and three grandchildren, Ford, Austin and Katelynn. 

Graveside service and interment was held in Smyrna Cemetery. No service or visitation was held at High’s.
