Shirley Diana Hillis Atnip

Smithville, TN resident and Warren County native Shirley Diana Hillis Atnip, age 75, was born December 15, 1948 and died July 13, 2024 at her residence following an extended illness.

The retired owner of Shirley's Daycare in Smithville, TN and member of the Baptist Church, she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Casteen Moore Hillis.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Herschel and Avo Moore;  paternal grandparents, Ras and Sally Hillis;  sister, Barbara Meece;  brother, Morris Hillis;  brothers-in-law, Jerry Lassiter and Winfred Washer and niece, Tammy Washer.

Ms. Atnip is survived by a daughter, Shelley Atnip (Corey Phillips) of Smithville, TN;  two sisters, Judy Washer of Powell, TN and Debbie Lassiter of McMinnville;  grandson, Braxton Pugh of Lebanon, TN;  special family member, Joe Atnip of the Centertown Community and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many over her long life.  She was a long-time business owner which was located in Smithville, TN, where she served her community for 41 years taking care of many, many children at her daycare, Shirley’s Daycare. She will be dearly missed by her whole family, her friends, and the little children of her community.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2024 in High's Chapel with Bill Robertson and Fernando Rocha officiating.  Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday and 8:00 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at High's.
