Rock Island, TN resident and Lewisburg, TN native Syble Jean Townsend Womack, age 82, was born August 13, 1941 and died May 14, 2024 at her residence following an extended illness.
She was the daughter of the late Arnold Owen and Melba Foster Hastings Towsend. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by father-in-law and mother-in-law, George "Tooter" and Willie Couch Womack.
She was married to Larry Womack of Rock Island on November 8, 1958. In addition to her husband of 65 years, Mrs. Womack is survived by children, Terry Lynn (Regina) Womack of Hillsboro, TN and Tonya Gwynn Hale of Rock Island, TN; two grandchildren, Corey Lynn Womack (Michelle Mix) of Rock Island, TN and Whitney Lashae Wallace of Quebeck, TN; two step-grandchildren, Josh (Melissa) Goodman and Mikayla (Sam) Mentzer; several step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carol (Bill) Fuqua and Kaye Hillis, both of Rock Island, TN; two nieces and two nephews; many, many friends and other family members.
Syble was a member of Rock Island Church of Christ, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was like Dorcas of the Bible, she was always cooking, sewing and giving to others. She retired from Levi Straus and kept children in her home for many years after retiring. She was able to see many of them grown with children of their own. She and Larry loved to camp and took their motor home many places. They had many camping friends that she loved like family.
Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2024 in High’s Chapel with Rachel Cantrell and Gene Brock officiating. Burial will follow at Old Bybee Cemetery in Warren County. Visitation will be Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at High’s.
