Unionville, TN resident and Warren County, TN native Thomas Edward “Jack” Mayes, age 88, born June 29, 1935 and died November 27, 2023 at Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital in Shelbyville, TN following a short illness. A Unites States Army veteran, retired purchasing supervisor for Ford Motor Company and a member of Chapel Hill Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Minnie Shockley Mayes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Mary Russell and brother, Jim (Delma) Mayes. He was married to Rita Joyce Mayes of Unionville, TN on August 16, 1957. In addition to his wife, Mr. Mayes is survived by children, Tonya (Jim) Bugg of Michigan, Jerry (Dana) Mayes of Nashville, TN, Keith (Anita) Mayes of Ohio and Kenny (Connie) Mayes of Watertown, TN; nine grandchildren; twenty seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Thelma DeLong of Spencer, TN and Dorothy (John David) Wilson of Sparta, TN; brother, Lonnie (Lynette) Mayes of Spencer, TN and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 1, 2023 in High’s Chapel with Isaac Bourne, Jerry Mayes and Kendall Mayes officiating. Burial will follow at Shockley Cemetery in Van Buren County, TN. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at High’s. Full military honors will be administered by American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5064.
