Walter Leon Hillis

Rock Island, TN resident and Van Buren County, TN native Walter Leon Hillis, age 87, was born December 19, 1934 and died October 8, 2022 at his residence following an extended illness. A retired computer specialist with Tennessee Valley Authority, United States Air Force veteran of Korea and member of the Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Irving and Maggie Gillentine Hillis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Juanita Hillis and Vida Pearl Parker and five brothers, Karl, Earl, John, Parker and Wince Hillis. Mr. Hillis was married August 31, 1957 to Madalyn Taylor Hillis of Rock Island, TN. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Irving (Leslie) Hillis of Loudon, TN, Kevin Hillis (Janet Blessing) of Chattanooga, TN and Walter Hillis, III (Suzanne) of Knoxville, TN; seven grandchildren, Erin Leigh (Joel) Born, Zackary Walker Hillis, Katie Taylor Hillis, Kellie Ann Hillis, Nathan Robert Hillis, Isaac Walter Hillis and Madalyn Elizabeth Hillis; great-granddaughter, Annie Jane Born and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service and interment will be held at 1:00 p.m. CDT Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at Crain Hill Cemetery in Van Buren County, TN with Steve Lusk, Walter L. Hillis, III and Jay Reed officiating. Military honors will be administered by the Robins Air Force Base Honor Guard. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. CDT Tuesday at High's. There will be no visitation at High's on Wednesday. Family and friends will meet at Crain Hill Cemetery for the graveside service. Online condolences may be made at www.highfuneralhome.com.
