William "Bill" Ramsey

McMinnville, TN resident and Highland Park, MI native William "Bill" Ramsey, age 73, was born April 27, 1945 and died June 3, 2018 at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, TN following a sudden illness.A retired Major in the United States Air Force and a member of Hopewell Fellowship Church, he was the son of the late Edd Wiley and Annie Mae Stokes Ramsey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Alfred and Edward Ramsey; and sister, Vera Jean Ramsey.He is survived by his wife, Joe Ella Smith Ramsey of Beavercreek, OH; son and daughter-in-law, Erik and Sara Ramsey of Beavercreek, OH; two daughters, Erin Ramsey of Monroe, OH and Clarita Hollis of Miamisburg, OH; seven grandchildren, Karina Hollis, Kiera Potter and husband Donovan, Lee Hollis, Jr., Eli Ramsey, Isaiah Ramsey, Ella Ramsey, and Broderick "Sonny" Curney, Jr.; great-grandchild, Donovan Potter, Jr.; brother, Frederick Ramsey of McMinnville; and several nieces and nephews.Bill, as he was lovingly referred, loved to bowl, fish, spend time with his family, and cook his famous ribs. He was a loyal Tennessee State University Tiger and member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. He achieved his lifelong dream of building a home on and retiring to "Lake Ramsey" after spending 20 years travelling the world serving the country in the U.S. Air Force, and going on to work as a realtor.He was a very active member of his church, serving up until the time of his death. He was always present at his grandkid's milestones. He was a great storyteller, who loved reflecting on and sharing times of the past, creating new memories and having a "funny" for you.He is dearly missed and will always be remembered as a kind man with a big smile and an even bigger heart.Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2018 in High's Chapel with Eddie Vance officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with full military honors administered by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at High's.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tennessee State University or American Cancer Society Hope Lodge.
